According to reports, from 2011 to 2012, South Korea recorded five wins and two draws in seven A-matches where foreign referees received inappropriate sexual favors from KFA officials. This incident is criticized for potentially compromising the fairness of the refereeing.
Although this issue occurred over 15 years ago, it has significantly damaged the image of Korean football. Even their achievements such as the 2002 World Cup quarter-final and the 2012 London Olympic bronze medal are now questioned due to the bribery allegations. The Yomiuri Sports pointed out that this scandal could severely impact Korea's international reputation in football.
While FIFA sets a five-year statute of limitations for disciplinary actions related to referee bribes, the incident has already passed its legal deadline. However, the international embarrassment and damage to Korean football’s image are inevitable.
