The South Korea national football team, led by coach Hong Myung-bo, has arrived in Monterrey, Mexico, to prepare for their third group stage match against South Africa in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team is currently in second place in their group, while South Africa is in fourth place. Mexico is trying to make the most of South Korea's visit to the World Cup. The Monterrey International Airport is relatively small but has a modern feel to it. A large screen at the airport displays the World Cup logo, followed by a video of a jellyfish swimming. There is also a sign that reads 'Welcome' in the languages of the countries playing in Monterrey, including Korean. The airport also features an advertisement for a Korean soju brand, which is unusual. While it may be an exaggeration to say that this is a sign of the power of Korean culture, it does suggest that Korea is being well-received in Mexico. The advertisement for the potato chip brand 'Sabritas' that was seen in Guadalajara is also on display at the Monterrey airport. The phrase 'Come to our country, and you will see that football is everything to us' is translated into Spanish, English, Korean, and Arabic and displayed on the airport screen. Spanish is the official language of Mexico, and given the global significance of English and Arabic, it is clear that the inclusion of Korean is intended to target Korean fans.
