Korea Football Association has narrowed the shortlist for the interim head coach of the South Korea national soccer team to five European candidates. The five applicants who passed document screening are Robert Moreno (49), Jesús Casas (53), Domenec Torrent (64), Erwin Koeman (65) and Dragan Stojković (61). KFA completed document screening for applicants last weekend and conducted eligibility checks. Online interviews are scheduled to be held this week. The five candidates include three Spaniards and one each from the Netherlands and Serbia. Moreno and Casas are candidates who had previously been named in the selection process for the South Korea national team coach. Moreno interviewed with the Korea Football Association in 2023 when Jürgen Klinsmann was appointed. Moreno has experience leading the Spain national team and managed clubs including AS Monaco, Granada and Sochi. Moreno's move to Korea was canceled when Klinsmann was appointed. Casas was coaching the Iraq national team in 2024 and was included among candidates for the next South Korea coach. The final choice at that time was coach Hong Myung-bo. Casas currently coaches Lion City Sailors in Singapore. Torrent is known as a coach who worked alongside Pep Guardiola for a long time. Torrent assisted Guardiola at clubs including Manchester City and experienced world-class club systems. Torrent later continued his managerial career on his own. Koeman coached Park Ji-sung and Lee Young-pyo during his time as head coach at PSV Eindhoven. Koeman lived directly with Korean players during his time at PSV Eindhoven. Stojković is the former Serbia national team coach. Stojković reportedly showed interest in the full-time South Korea coaching position. Stojković was included in the candidates for this public recruitment for interim coach after showing willingness to come to Korea during the full-time selection process. Gus Poyet reportedly did not pass the document screening. Domestic coaches were reportedly not included among the five interviewees. Korea Football Association said: "We completed the document screening for applicants last weekend. We conducted eligibility checks on the documents, verified the results, and notified successful and unsuccessful applicants."
